Our History

Sign Language Network Inc. (SLN) is an RID certified interpreter owned interpreting referral company. Located in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado, we service large portions of the State.

Because the Colorado State School for the Deaf and Blind has been located here since 1874, a large portion of the state’s deaf/hearing impaired population has settled along the Front Range in the Colorado Springs and Denver areas. It was evident to us that there was a growing need for qualified, professional sign language interpreting services. We organized our company to provide those services.

SLN contracts with over 90 sign language independent contractor/interpreters throughout the state of Colorado, and currently services up to 1,900 interpreting hours per month.

We are well known for our involvement in community events, such as local cowboy poetry programs, storytelling festivals, the annual Generation Journey shows in the Pikes Peak Center (proceeds go to charity), the annual Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration shows, and other nationally known performances.

About Us

We are a full network of qualified interpreters, independently contracted and coordinated by:

Andrea Reeves - President/Owner

Andrea Reeves - President/Owner - RID Certified CI - 1994 - CT - 1997

Andrea M. Reeves is one of the original business owners who started Sign Language Network Inc. in 1995.

Andrea was introduced to sign language as a child due to growing up with two deaf siblings. She interpreted for her brothers in church, cub scouts, boy scouts, and school programs.

After moving to Colorado Springs with her family in 1979, she accepted a job at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind where she was a dorm supervisor for eleven years. Her responsibilities involved taking care of up to 17 deaf children at a time within her dorm, planning activities, helping with homework, helping the children get ready for bedtime, and reading books to the children using sign language.

During free time from her dorm work, Andrea would often interpret out in the community. She was an interpreter out in the community for 10 years before starting her business with three fellow interpreting professionals. She became nationally certified in 1994 to ensure professionalism and skill level to meet her deaf consumers needs.

On November 1, 1995 Sign Language Network Inc. was established. Andrea is proud to provide professional sign language interpreting services to such a wonderful community of deaf and hearing consumers.

Andrea's company helps local deaf interest groups by volunteering and providing donations to help send deaf children to summer camps, deaf softball teams the ability to afford uniforms, and helps deaf victims of violence. She also volunteers with the local chapter of The Colorado Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to help educate and prepare interpreters.

Terri Rose - Billing Consultant/Office Manager

As Billing Consultant and Office Manager she is responsible for running the office and ensuring that our bills are user friendly and prompt.

Terri came to Sign Language Network, Inc (SLN) in 1997 as Office Manager upon retiring from Albertson’s, Inc. after 23 commendable years of service.

Terri Rose - Office Manager

Terri has been in the Colorado Springs area since 1972 and began working at Albertson’s while attending Doherty High School. After graduation she began to accelerate through several steps in the company ladder. During her tenure at Albertson’s, Terri was recognized for her customer service expertise and proficient production in the front-end operations. In acknowledgement of her diligence she was promoted to Scan Coordinator in the IT Department. Upon completion of her career at Albertson’s, Terri was asked to assist in maintaining store-level accounting systems, human resources, and payroll.

During Terri’s spare time from Albertson’s, her own hearing loss drew her to the Deaf Community of Colorado Springs. Terri had a deep desire to offer equally excellent customer service to the deaf community as well. In an effort to do so, Terri volunteered her time with the Center on Deafness and taking sign language courses to enable her to better communicate with her deaf customers.

Terri moved onto volunteer work at the Colorado Springs School for the Deaf and Blind. In becoming acquainted with the Deaf Community, Terri seemed a natural when Sign Language Network, Inc. had grown to the point of needing an office manager. Terri filled a void in the needs of our office in interpreter coordination, A/R, A/P, contract procurement, as well as, other day-to-day operational duties of SLN.

Since joining SLN, Terri has dug into the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with a zest to assist the deaf community in achieving effective communication. She participates in training and ADA conferences whenever they are available. Terri is mesmerized by the ADA.gov website and studies Department of Justice settlements encompassing all titles of the ADA, making her a tremendous resource for ADA compliance.

Terri balances the requirements of the ADA with the needs of SLN’s interpreters. She is constantly striving to stay abreast of interpreting “standard practices” while keeping interpreters safe in their settings. Terri was recently awarded an honorary membership to the Pikes Peak Chapter of Colorado Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

Terri’s experience gives her a unique understanding of the financial accountability of the accommodating provider, combined with the requirements of the ADA, while ultimately providing effective access to our deaf community.

Sign Language Network is proud to have such a versatile, caring, and knowledgeable employee as Terri.

Jackie Borne - Interpreter Coordinator

Jackie Borne - Interpreter Coordinator

Our Interpreter Coordinator, Jacqueline (Jackie) Borne came on board at Sign Language Network in August of 2000. She is Member of the Year for CRID (Colorado Registry of the Deaf).

Jackie grew up in Missouri, and after 10 years of living in different places on the continent with her Navy husband, they decided to again settle in Missouri. Jackie then decided to pursue a long-standing love, nursing, and graduated with her R.N. from St. Luke’s School of Nursing

in Kansas City in 1984, and then went on to complete her B.S.N. at Webster University, graduating in 1987.

Jackie worked in St. Luke’s Cardiovascular ICU caring for open-heart and heart-transplant surgical patients, then moved on to clinical nursing before moving to Colorado Springs in 1992. At that time, she began work at the Cleo Wallace Home for Emotionally Disturbed Children in Colorado Springs, working as charge RN in the in-patient unit, moving to Residential RN, then on to assisting the Director of Nursing, overseeing the Nursing, Medical and Infection Control components at Cleo Wallace.

While working at Cleo Wallace, Jackie began her evening studies at Pikes Peak Community College, taking beginning American Sign Language courses, and eventually left Cleo Wallace to attend PPCC full-time in the Interpreter Prep Program, and graduated in 1999 with her Associates degree in Interpreting. Jackie had the wonderful opportunity of completing her interpreter internship with Sign Language Network prior to graduating, and then became an Independent Contractor with Sign Language Network as a freelance interpreter upon graduation.

When Sign Language Network offered her the position of Interpreter Coordinator, she gladly accepted, utilizing the 10 years of office experience she had acquired in the years prior to her nursing education. Jackie remains a freelance interpreter in the Deaf community, thru Sign Language Network, alternating with her hours in the office at SLN. Jackie also is active in the Colorado Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, ( CRID-PP), Pikes Peak Affiliate, an organization of interpreters whose primary function is to provide access in communication for Deaf individuals. She is especially active on the Fundraising Committee, planning fundraisers to help fund workshops, seminars and annual conferences for continuing education for interpreters.

Jackie’s medical expertise, interpreter education/profession and life’s experiences have greatly enhanced her ability to match our Deaf client’s needs with the skills of our interpreters, making her a valuable asset to the Sign Language Network “team.”
